Michelle

Dublin born Michelle began her singing career in the festival halls  Ireland. She moved to the UK to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and The Guildhall School of music and Drama, London. Michelle returns to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden this Autumn to reprise her role as Ninetta in the Olivier Award winning production of Verdi’s Les Vepres Siciliennes conducted by Antonio Pappano and directed by Stefan Herheim. Also as a guest artist at the ROH Michelle covered the role of Pisana in Verdi’s I due Foscari starring Placido Damingo, Third Nymph in Dvorak’s Rusalka, Third Innocent in Birtwistle’s The Minotaur and Anna in the David McVicar Production of Berlioz Les Troyens. Michelle will make her German debut in the 2017 new Production of Death in Venice (Britten) as solo alto/Bettlerin at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Recent performances include Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte) for Lismore Opera Festival, Ireland and the 2014 Windsor festival, Polly Peacham (The Beggars Opera) for the European Opera Centre with the Liverpool Philharmonic and Cornelia (Giulio Cesare) for the COR as part of the 2013 Bloomsbury Festival. For English National Opera Michelle has performed the roles of Feklusha in Janacek’s Katya Kabanova which was broadcast by the BBC and Cretan Woman in Katie Mitchell’s production of Mozart’s Idomeneo. Also for ENO, Michelle has understudied Third Lady (The Magic Flute) Madam Larina in Deborah Warner’s  production of Eugene Onegin and the the role of Vlasta in the ENO UK premiere of Weinburg’s The Passenger. Michelle was a member of the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus in the summer of 2011 and performed in the company’s production of Wagner’s Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg and Mozart’s Don Giovanni. For British Youth Opera Michelle has performed the role of Suzy in Puccini’s La Rondine, Nancy (cover) in Britten’s Albert Herring and Madam Larina (cover) in Eugene Onegin.

Michelle is also in demand as a concert singer and has performed recitals at both the National Concert Hall Dublin and the Waterfront Hall Belfast. Recent performances include an opera gala concert for the LGSO at Milton Court, Barbican and a recital featuring repertoire from The American Songbook at the NCH, Dublin Michelle was a semi-finalist in the Julian Gayarre International Vocal Competition, Teatro Gayarre de Pamplona, 2008. Oratorio experience includes Mozart’s Requiem at Saint Martin in the Fields and Rossini’s Petit Messe Solenelle at Odiham, Hampshire, Handel’s Messiah for Putney Choral Society. Recent Oratorio performances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah for the Jubilate Choir conducted by Killian Farrell and for the Orchestra Vitae, Wokingham. Michelle is a Britten-Pears Young Artist and performed the part of Mystery in Purcell’s The Faery Queen at Snape Maltings. Michelle has also been a Wexford Festival Opera Young Artist and has performed at the Theatre Royal Wexford.

Michelle is also a jazz singer and songwriter and has released her own album of acoustic jazz and soul inspired songs. She is currently working on a new album which she plans to release in 2018. She recently performed a sold out concert for Jazz Radio Berlin at the Orange Room, The Ellington Hotel, Berlin. This is included her own compositions and standards from the Great American Songbook.
